Biochar Cost: The expected total cost in € for the needed amount of biochar of the selected type.

CO₂e emission reduction: This adjusts the tonnes of biochar by the correction rate for the application to soil, and then multiplies it by 3.67 to give the weight of CO₂ (When two oxygen atoms bind to a carbon atom, the combined mass of the carbondioxide molecule is 3.67 times that of the carbon atom on its own.

CO₂e emissions reduction by reduced hard material usage: Assumption: Either in the design of a new road, or the alteration of part of an existing urban road to create 'traffic-free' area, the choice of inserting an area planted with grass, shrubs and trees can avoid emissions such as asphalt and concrete. To illustrate this, the avoided emissions value is calculatd on the basis that 1 square metre of highway is replaced by 1 square metre of rain garden with a depth of 1m. An estimate of the emissions from materials production, transport and construction of 1 square metre of 'hard' roadway materials is 97kg CO₂e. In reality, the actual values should be calcualted from the specific design being proposed.
