The Carbon Manager Course
From Knowledge to Regional Action
The CASCADE Carbon Manager Course began in February 2026 as a European blended learning programme for professionals interested in introducing circular carbon solutions in their regions.
During the online phase, participants explored residual biomass recovery, biomass pre-treatment, pyrolysis, biochar quality and applications in agriculture, horticulture, construction and regional development. Working in transnational groups, they analysed regional biomass sources, identified relevant stakeholders and developed initial ideas for circular carbon products, services and value chains.
The practical highlight of the course took place in Kassel immediately before the THREE C Network Conference. During a dedicated field day, participants visited the University of Kassel’s TechLab in Eichenberg, Hof Tolle and KohleHelden. These visits connected the course content with practical examples of biomass preparation, pyrolysis, climate farming, agroforestry and market-oriented biochar production.
Participants then joined the conference and workshops at the University of Kassel, where they exchanged experiences with European experts and explored how circular carbon concepts can move from research and pilot activities towards viable regional implementation.
Following the Kassel event, the course continued with the development of regional scenarios, carbon balances and initial Carbon Management approaches.
