CASCADE Project Engages with Leading Luxembourg Public Works Company

As part of the CASCADE project, the Council for the Development of the Circular Economy (CDEC) recently visited one of Luxembourg’s leading public works companies, known for its expertise in asphalt production and application across roads, cycle paths, footpaths, and airport runways.

At its state-of-the-art production site, the company develops high-recycled-content asphalt, coloured asphalt mixes, and low-temperature formulations. With its dedicated laboratory and R&D department, the company is committed to advancing innovation and exploring new solutions for more sustainable infrastructure.

Investigating Biochar’s Potential in Asphalt

Driven by a strong focus on environmental sustainability, the company is now exploring the potential of biochar to help reduce the carbon footprint of asphalt production. By incorporating biochar into asphalt formulations, the aim is to:

  • Assess the material’s performance impact, including durability and structural properties.
  • Evaluate its role in CO₂ reduction, supporting a more sustainable construction industry.
  • Explore large-scale applications that align with Luxembourg’s broader environmental goals.
Advancing the Circular Carbon Economy

This initiative aligns with the CASCADE project’s mission to promote circular carbon solutions, demonstrating how biochar can be integrated into construction materials. By bridging innovation with sustainability, these trials could pave the way for more climate-conscious infrastructure development in the region.

Stay tuned as we follow the progress of this collaboration and its potential impact on sustainable road construction!
