Biochar Needed: The total amount of biochar in tonnes needed for the application on the selected volume. It is also the number of of hectares of grassland over which the composed material can be spread (Horticultural applications may use a larger volume per unit area).

Biochar Cost: The expected total cost in € for the needed amount of biochar of the selected type.

Carbo: This adjusts the tons of biochar by the correction rate for the application to soil, and then multiplies it by 3.67 to give the weight of CO₂ (When two oxygen atoms bind to a carbon atom, the combined mass of the carbondioxide molecule is 3.67 times that of the carbon atom on its own.

CO₂ emissions reduction by reduced fertilizer usage: Assumption: artificial fertilizer used: 20:20:10 NPK which has an estimated CO₂e contribution of 1.5t per ton of fertilizer manufactored. This figure does not include emissions for the extraction of raw materials or the transport from the manufacturer to the point of application. Assumed application rate for intensively grazed pasture is 150kg per hectare. This estimate does not include NOx emission caused by the interaction of the nitrogen in the fertilizer with soil bacteria. Therefore avoided fossil fuel emissions are assumed to be at least 225kg CO₂e per hectare.
